Buying or building a new home gives you a blank slate, a canvas on which to paint your unique style. But we understand that it can be hard to envision your own stamp on a new home. So, we have put together a few ideas for you, in association with Saute & Soak.
Styles in décor don’t usually change with the seasons. Your home’s style needs to suit you for a good while, or else you would be decorating 4 times a year, never able to settle.
Your home style should be enduring, comfortable and very uniquely you. But as the decades pass, trends do appear and sometimes reappear. We suggest taking a look at this list to find your starting point for your own style.

1. Naturals
The classic, enduring style. Neutrals have remained in fashion for decades, due to their versatility and timeless grace. Either as a base to compliment a bolder colour choice in a feature wall or two-toned kitchen or as your main colour, to create a calming, relaxing space.
But colour hasn’t left completely, soft natural colours inspired by the earth and all its beautiful inhabitants are being seen in homes all around. Mauve, peach, coral, and terracotta, as well as bolder oxblood, rust and pink. These colours bring in their own unique warmth and comfort, especially alongside warm-toned whites, and browns to envelop you in a blanket of calm.
2. Silver Accents
Silver is another choice, much like the neutrals, which represent a versatile, timeless, and classy accompaniment to any space. A touch of sparkle in a handle or a more prominent beacon of light in a silver mirror.
Silver is often the choice for a more modern clean look, a dash of brightness to a monochrome colour scheme.
Gold and brass accents remain popular in some instances but we are seeing a slow move back towards chrome, silver and stainless steel.

3. All Or Nothing
There is a continued war between the minimalists and maximalists and everything in between.
We are starting to see a move towards decluttering and creating a clear, airy space. No more scatter cushions and knickknacks. The ‘modern farmhouse’ look is falling out of fashion as this new clean and bright movement rises. People are looking for less fuss, even looking to bring back brutalism. Raw or microtopped concrete floors paired with exposed beams, green plants, and wood. Industrial style meets eco to create the clean and calm space people are looking for.
There has been a rise in searches for Japandi the portmanteau of Japan and Scandi. The two styles are known for their celebration of the minimal and the deliberate. This mix of styles means that the sometimes colder feel of the Scandi style now has the warmth of the Japanese style with earthenware and lovingly cared-for bonsai.
However, in stark contrast, we are also seeing the return of Neoclassicism and recency fair. The running theory is that whilst we all languished in PJs and dressing gowns during the pandemic, it made us miss the class, the sophistication and the formal, (also consider the popularity of Bridgeton during this time). Therefore, we are seeing a lot more of those highly detailed lines and symmetry. We will see the resurgence of sculptures and an old-world feel.
4. Textured Tiles
Textured tiles, as well as those of a more geometric or mosaic style, emerged this year and caught many an eye. These unique tiles open up a world of opportunity to create a tactile surface.
Consider your bathroom, a place where textures are usually all of a similar nature, to ensure cleanliness. Introducing a textured or patterned tile changes the usual dynamic. Of course, there is no need to stop in the bathroom, these tiles would be right at home as a splashback or flooring. We have also seen brick textures and bevelled metro tiles used in fireplaces to create an organic feel or subtle contrast.

5. Slow Down on Fast Furniture
We are all conscious of our footprint, and our effect on our world. This environmentally conscious approach extends to our interiors. Fast Furniture is out as demand rises for pieces that will truly last and look beautiful for years to come. Equally, this move comes from a desire for us to explore our unique style once more, we have seen a rise in thrifting and upcycling in the last few years. With time on our hands, we took to picking up hobbies and creating, more people are making their own furniture or looking for those one-of-a-kind pieces.
